Re: fuel tank

what kind of engine? Before you do that, why not try a outboard type tank hooked to the fuel pump....I did that with mine and found out it was the pump that was the problem...

Re: fuel tank

I had a similar problem with a 1996 4.3l mercruiser. The antisiphon valve was bad and needed to be replaced. This apparently is not an uncommon problem. The valve is located at the fitting on top of the tank (that's where it was on a stingray). But, my boat had another problem. The antisiphon valve was bad because it was plugged with debris. The pic-up line at the bottom of the tank had a filter on it. The filter broke down and clogged the fuel line (maybe caused by the ethanol in the gas). I had to replace the fuel line in the tank as well as the antisiphon valve. I also added an inline fuel filter before the water seperator to catch the rest of the debris.

Re: fuel tank

the only thing that unbolts an comes outta my tank is where the sending unit is, so just a small hole to look in. can i just make my own hole run a rubber hose down to the bottome an then seal the whole that i made to put that hose in.

Only if you are suicidal

This thread needs to be in the I/O forum.
There are two stickies at the top of that forum that you should check out. You'll find step by step instructions for troubleshooting your fuel system.

Re: fuel tank

Your tank should have 4 holes/ports in it. Two big ones - gauges sender and fuel fill. and two small ones - fuel line to engine (this one has the anti-siphon valve in it) and vent. Everything should be removable (line should not be "made to" the tank) from the tank - unless a PO has done some major rework, in which case you probably have bigger safety issues.

The four tank penetrations are not always grouped together (mine are all on one end, but spread accross the width), and not all manufacturers are kind enough to provide access plates where needed.

Whatever you do, remember this is not a lawnmower, it's a boat with a closed bilge - gas fumes/leaks = explosion.

Re: fuel tank

The tank connection should unscrew from the tank. I just bought a new tank and it has two outlets, both had anti-siphon valves, I used one side and took the other out and plugged it with a pipe fitting. The ball bearing your feel or hear is the anti-siphon valve, it is just spring loaded. If blowing back through it clears the problem temporarily, the pick up on the bottom is getting clogged, some haver screens on them and they get clogged up.
