Re: fuel tank retro fit???

Re: fuel tank retro fit???

Portable tanks are meant to be removed from the boat for filling. The reason is that they are not grounded until they are resting on the ground.

Installed fuel tanks are designed to accept a fuel line, a fill hose, and a vent line. The tanks are grounded, thru the system to the water.

Why, you ask?

Because as the fuel is being pumped into a fuel tank, static electricity builds up on the nozzle. When enough builds up the nozzel becomes the tip of a spark plug. Get it close enough to a conductive surface, a spark can jump across the gap. This spark can ignite the fumes that are present around the fill pipe. If you can't guess what happens next - it's BANG, you are history.

If you want to build in a tank, then do it right and get a tank designed to be built in, use the correct hoses, ground the tank and the fuel fill, rest the fill nozzel against the fuel fill while filling and you're golden.

QUIT ASKING PEOPLE HOW YOU CAN BLOW YOURSELF UP, it's not fair.
