I'm in the process of restoring a boat with above deck plastic fuel tanks. I was at the gas station today filling a plastic gas can for the lawn mower. As I'm filling the can I was thinking about the spark hazard when filling a gas can on the tail gate of a truck verses on the ground. What about filling the plastic tank on a boat? The static electricity can set off a fire there also. Are there any precautions that can be made such as a ground strap to the negative post on the battery? If so I'd like to do it while the boat is going through reassembly. Thanks
