Fuel vent feed

I am replacing the fuel vent and fuel feed lines. The vent line 5/8 inch hose. I had a problem last year with the deck fill spitting gas back at me while fueling. My question is does the Fuel Vent line need to be looped so if any water gets in vent it wont go to the fuel tank? I have the vent with two holes on bottom and cant see how water would get in.

Ayuh,... The line should come from the vent fitting, loop Up, then down to the tank....
