I just spliced into my brand new fuel line a fuel water separator. It seems to me that since I put it on, I can't keep my fuel bulb firm. Has any one ever had this problem? I had the air vents open on my gas tanks(both brand new and both portable)so it never sucked the bulb flat, it just sucked the gas out of the bulb. The was my first trip on the the river with this new powerhead(breaking it in) and I hadto pump the bulb many times. After I did, it obviously went soft again. It did this with both tanks. Any suggestions?

I have a 1985 johnson 150(brand new head) with 3/8 lines. Carbs are brand new. New fuel filter in motor also.

First of all it is normal for the bulb to be soft (but not collapsed) after the motor is running. You say you had to pump the bulb many times, is this because the motor stopped running? If so you have done something wrong in installing the seperator. Some of the kits have 2 ins and 2 outs to make the installation easier and then the unused ones are plugged. Double check those.

Re: fuel/water separator affecting primer bulb?

I am positive(at least according to the arrows on the unit) that the lines are hookedup in the proper orientation. As for running out of fuel......no(the tanks never emptied out, but the bulb sure did). I was running down the river(everythings great). I stop to look at some piers in the water. I go to get back up on a plane, and it bogs down. I do it 2 more times. I then thought I left my air valve closed on my tank.....no. Isqueeze the bulb(it had very little gas in it) and the motor goes back to normal. I forgot to mention that the engine started to sneeze a little before i tried to get it on a plane. No more sneeze after that. The motor never bogged down again but it would sneeze from time to time. That's when I would pump the ball and the hiccup would go away. Could it be the primer bulb? Fuel pumps?
I'm running the dual fuel pump set-up like an 83 motor. No leaks from the lines that I can see............
