I need to put a fuel water separator on my '94 Javelin bass boat after an incident with contaminated marina gas this fall. I know that a clear bowl Racor is the popular choice but which model will I need for my 115 Johnson that will not restrict flow?

Do any of you have a picture of how you have the separator mounted in the bilge compartment of your bass boat? I know where I need to put it in the fuel line, but I am kinda stuck on how to mount the thing.

Mine is mounted on a vertical surface (side) of the splash well right in front of the outboard.

do you have pictures of it mounted? I sort of want to mount mine in my splash well too, but I dont know if it's a good idea. I'm afraid of something or someone hitting and breaking it.

The orange X is where my fuel nipple is located at. I want to put the W/S on the starboard side, but that's where my wires/controls go, so less room in the well.

I dont know how the fuel line is ran, so I dont know if I have easy access to be able to cut it off somewhere in the bilge or hatch to install the W/S there instead.

PS,
I'm looking at the Moeller composite unit with the clear bowl. My reasoning is it's relatively cheap and it has 3/8" head. But I do seem to have an issue of finding replacement filters with the clear bottom.

My small bass/fishing boat.

Fuel/water separator filter mounted on verticle wall inside right rear hatch opening....starting batt. resides there, had a good spot to mount the filter. Easily accessible.

Rear of boat....fuel filter is just able to be seen peeking out of right side rear hatch.

Fuel filter mounted....used stainless screws.

Gas tank outlet to filter, filter to engine. Just mount it somewhere that lets you change the filter easily.

I believe if you're going to mount your filter inside a compartment, then an all-metal unit(without the clear plastic drain bowl) is recommended due to breakage or leakage inside causing a fire/explosion hazard(as per coast guard). I use the Walmart metal unit($27) mounted on the inside of the transom, works great, easy 2 screw installation. I just unscrew it and dump it now and then, screw it back on and keep going. Continue to check and clean your under cowl filter just as a back-up to your big filter. And I still drain the carb float chambers now and then just to make sure no water or debris has accumulated there. No fuel problems at all! Good Luck!
