Fuel/Water Separator

I have a 1993 OMC 5.0L which I just did a re-power on, and I'm trying to decide whether or not to intsall a fuel/water separator. I know everyone is going to say "hell yes, do it", but can I get away without one? During the planning process I forgot about it and mounting one now with the engine installed would be a pain.

So is one necessary or will an inline fuel filter with anti-water additive at each fill-up suffice?

Thanks

Re: Fuel/Water Separator

Do yourself a favor, get a good one (10 micron) especially if they are using ethanol in the gas in Cali. My OMC came with one from the factory, says OMC on the filter bracket. I have used the Sierra filters with good results but will upgrade to a Raycor the next time I change it. That little filter at the entrance to the carb isn't going to do a a thing if you get substantial water in the gas.

Thanks guys - so what you're saying is that no, I can't safely get away without one, and that an anti-water additive will NOT prevent water from affecting engine performance?

Thanks

The Moeller one I recommend list the compatable M/C part numbers that also works with. You can certainly get the 10 micron version of those filters and screw it right on... Its not a proprietary filter, its very standard...
