Hello,
I have a '67 Evinrude Big Twin (Mod# 40703E SER# E01637) with little power at full throttle. I received some good insite into my possible lack of power the other day, but I had one more question. I noticed that when I move the control to WOT, the spark advance cam only turns an inch or so past the allignment marks on the cam when it alligns with the pointer and the throttle begins to open, however the throttle seems to open fully, but am I at full spark advance? My question is, how far should this roatate? All the way to the end of the cam? I can't push the 'lever' any further...is it possible that this is not set correcly. Thanks.

If you look at where the spark plugs leads come out from below the armature plate, your looking at the advance stop. It's the strange looking strain relife for the spark plug leads that screws onto the bottom of the armature plate. It will contact a tab on the top of the block above the top cylinder when the advance limit is reached. On my engine, the cam follower is about 1/4" or so away from the end of the cam at full advance. Chances are your armature plate is gummed up. It ought to turn freely.
Good luck!
