Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience in using this in an earlier (mine is a '79) outboard and what results you saw with it?
Well, here we go again!:^
Way back in the late seventies I had an early 85 HP Evenrude. I didn`t know anything about decarbing then and I let someone talk me into the Amsoil 100:1 oil. I used it at about 80:1. This was the first 100:1 multipurpose oil Amsoil came out with. I progressivly ran better and better and was the fastest 85 HP engines around at the time. This may have been due to the fact that it had a bizzillion hours on it and it was lose as a goose. It had been run on nothing but Texaco 2 cycle oil from new before I got it. It never missed a beat.
All I`m saying from this is that it didn`t seem to hurt anything and it didn`t smoke like everyone elses did.
I also ran nothing but high test in it which I find out now that I didn`t need to.
Go ahead and try it, Penz or whatever you want and see if you like it. Now, I would recommend doing a decarb right before you switch.
