Here's something for you boaters to think about doing. Collect all the foreign coins you can find, no need to purchase, just talk to your friends and after telling them your plan they will likely offer them. Take these coins, find yourself a little chest or ??. Now take this collection to your favorite island or ??, dig a hole, and I'm sure you know the rest. Make yourself the map on canvass, place in bottle, then stash in the garden or someplace the CHILDREN will find it. The key is to make it realistic so be creative. This spring you can REQUIRE the young ones help in the yard, let them find it, and what fun that next boat trip will be. For us, we buried the treasure, we're just waiting for spring. :)

Re: Fun For The Family

One of the greatest memories as a kid was when my brother and I were digging along the barge canal in upstate New York. We found an old chest that for us looked like a treasure chest. It was an old dome topped metal chest that we were sure pirates had buried when they were taking their pirate ships through the canal. We were 4 and 6 so we had no idea the canal wasn't always there. We tried to get it open and just couldn't break the rusted latch, so we dragged it home with our wagon for the old man to open when he got home. I remember being so excited wondering what we would buy with our newfound treasure. The old man opened it up and it was chock full of nothing but air. Boy were we ever disappointed. I remember spending the rest of the summer looking for a full one but never did find anything else.

You've gotta love this kind of stuff. RNDN, like yourself, my sister and I were beach combing (roughly 20 miles south of Sitka AK) when we were about six. This was were we lived, just two very old small buildings one inhabited by an old man named Grandpa Walters the other by our family. We didn't get to town much so any thing that washed up on the beach was a treasure. Of course we had found many glass balls, buoys, etc. but the best was when a large bottle of apple sauce washed up. You would have thought it was gold. To this very day, apple sauce brings a smile to my face. :)

if you've seen the movie national treasure you could make those outings last all summer always have a clue lead to another clue and so forth . if you could plan 6-8 clues with a reward @ the end you will have 6-8weeks of intrigue and fun for the family...
