Where the battery cable connects to the starter solenoid / starter their is a small plastic spacer with a fusible link inside it, made of the same metal found inside a standard glass fuse. This link is melted and I don't know what the part is called.

This link makes electrical contact when the solenoid bolt that connects the positive cable to the solenoid is tightened down all the way. The link touches each side of a bolt that has a conductive core but the outer part of the bolt is not conductive except for the small part of each end the link touches when tighten down.

Does anyone know what the part is called so I can find a replacement part.

I have the exact problem. I have bypassed mine and cannot find a name for the part. I have searched everything I know of and this thread is the only thing that came up. Have you found the name of the part? If so please post it because I would like to get one also.

it's called the 50 amp fusible link....call the maxum parts dept. at your local dealer and they can get you one for about 10 bucks.....then your gonna have to trace the wire going up from the starter to the alt. and check to see where it chaffed.....I had the problem too just as I was coming off plane towards a marina...engine and everything died....only had the radio.....so....got a tow from a friendly passerby.....bypassed it and went home to find the wire mentioned above had chaffed on the intake....make up a new wire and lug assembly and re-routed it away from the manifold....haven't had a problem since..but I have a spare one in my spares kit......
