Re: FWC number 2...
To my knowledge. There are NO systems where the elbows are "fresh" water cooled.
I guess you could (fresh-water) cool the elbows but you would need a water injector right where the exhaust exits the elbow. You would have to have raw water mixing with and cooling the exhaust gasses so you don't melt the rubber parts in the exhaust system and /or your stern drive.
ALL of them have "raw' water running thru the elbows.
The 1/2 systems do the block only to be sure but The full systems use block off gaskets between the manifolds/extensions and the elbow/risers to prevent coolant from getting into the elbows.
Some of the newer stuff has no path for water to get from the manifold sealing surface to the elbow so a tube is provided for raw water cooled systems to get raw water up to the elbow..
FULL systems require a somewhat larger heat exchanger to cool the manifolds.
Cheers,
Rick
From what I read, there are two varieties out there- one cools just the block and one cools both the block and manifolds. So my question... if someone explained to you that "the block and risers were cooled, but not the elbows", which system do they have?
