Took the old tin can out tonight and popped the boat in reverse to start back trolling, went forward! Engaged forward gear, went forward, neutral is forward too, lol.

First time Ive seen this, but then again, first boat Ive had with 34 year old cables on it. I suppose they've served their purpose.

Its a '76 55hp

I knew I was pushing the cables past their due date, but was hoping to get the rest of the summer out of them. I hoped wrong.

Yup - mechanical shift, so bad cables would do it. Stop bein' as cheap as I am and buy some cables!

(Then again, I have a friend who bought a boat months ago, but hasn't been aboe to use it, because he refuses to buy a new throttle cable! LOL, this is a guy who could buy just about any boat he wants for cash and he won't spent 25 buck on a cable!)
