gaer swap

Hello all I have a 89 omc drive powered by a 2.3 ford.
My ? is, are the forward and reverse swapable?
I fixed my cable and shifting problems But I still have a clunk in the drive some times.
I think I've narrowed it down to the dog clutch and mabe the forward gaer does not do it in reverse, so I wander if the foward & reverse gaers are the same and does anybody know if I can switch em.

Do ya think a new foward gear set and dog clutch would fix my clunk Don?

Can't answer that without looking at it. Assuming you mean the clunk is from it popping out of gear. But if the dogs are rounded over (compare to reverse) then they need replaced.

Do you know where I can get those gears at , I don't think Iboats sells em
