I have a 1981 16ft Galaxie (Texas) deck boat that I am thinking of fixing up. I am trying to find out if there is any wood in the boat. From what I can tell there isn't any...the floor is fiberglass, and looking through all the openings All I can see is fiber. Anyone know for sure?

OK, so I've decided to work on the boat, and found out there is wood under the fiber floor. After pulling up the carpet I find the fiber floor is attached to a wood sheet with about 40 screws...and all 40 screws have rusted to the point of not keeping the fiber and wood pressed together. Same goes for the console and pedestal seat, the bolts holding them down are rusted so bad they no longer resemble screws, they look more like toothpics.

The wood itself looks fine though, and feels solid, and there is no other wood, no wood stringers etc, so I am hoping I can just screw in new stainless screws and bolts and be done with it. Opinions? The rest of the boat is solid, including transom.

be sure to pre drill pilot holes as stainless screws have a tendency to break if over torqued going in. it will last you a couple of more years. seal the old holes.

Is there a better option than stainless?

Adhesive?
If you were installing new fiberg over the wood.
Does it look like the fiberg was added on top of the original floor by a P.O. or do u think it came that way from the factory?

What looks like fiberglass structurals inside might be fiberglass encased wood.

It looks original. Looks like the wood is there simply for mounting the console and chair to, and maybe provide a little support to the floor. I'll go ahead with the screws...now I just have to decide if I want to shell out $200 on a console or make one myself. The one that was on it was baby blue vinyl and but ugly.
