Hey all I recently picked up a 90 Galaxy 190. 4.3 I/O Merc Alpha one. Anyone have any info regarding these boats? All I can see is they went belly up in or around 91. I've had it out a few times now and absoultly love it. It seems very sturdy, no major flaws (Aside from some interior work I need to do) The glass is in excellent shape. I see alot of pics on the net but no forum anywhere. Any Info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Rick.

Re: Galaxy Boats???

Nice looking boat. I had a 1984 210 model open bow and it was a great boat but sat a little bit to low down in the water for my liking being on lake erie. It was a great boat though it was well taken care of through out its life. I think read somewhere that it was from south carolina although I think there were 2 different Galaxy boat companies not to mention Galaxie. I know that Galaxy has been out of business for some time and there is some info to be found after a little digging around on the net. I 'think' they made boats from 69 to 90. Good luck with it.

Re: Galaxy Boats???

So after some more digging after Galaxy went belly up, he started making the same boats under another name called Infinity. That's where I loose him. There seems to be a mixed cont about these boats, more good then bad. So far I'm pretty happy with it. My Doral is an 87 and this 90 seems to be in as good as if not better condition. Anyone else out there have any more info to add? There isn't a section here (or anywhere else for that matter) for them, so finding someone else that has one to relate to seems difficult.

Cheers Rick.

Re: Galaxy Boats???

I have a 85 Galaxy 176 Bowrider that I've owned for right at a year. I bought it for dirt cheap and have been paying for it ever since. Not to complain since I was warned but I actually like her and she is finally seaworthy though hardly perfect.

Galaxy was building boats in Columbia, SC until they went TU.

The advantage to owning one is that parts are generic and easily obtained. Mine has benefited greatly by the addition of Smart Tabs.

Re: Galaxy Boats???

Thanks for the info Jay, I'll look into the smart tabs. Once I winterize her I'm going to start the process of new interior. This will be my second rebuild so I'm kind of looking forward to doing this one. My other boat is a Doral 160, she was a complete gut and re-do. This one won't be near as bad I figure. I did message EZ to see if he could put a Galaxy section in for us, I'd like a place to post pics and compare notes on the same boat instead of in a generic area. I still hang out in the Doral section, even considered re decaling her to say Doral just for a buzz. I was thinking Doral in big letters and Galaxy right underneath. Still undecided. I do think it's pretty cool having a boat that isnt popular, right now it has no decals on it and all the guys at the lake had a heck of a time trying to figure out what it was. It will be nice when I'm done I figure.

Cheers Rick.

Re: Galaxy Boats???

We saw a bunch of Galaxy boats in the early 80's. They looked like replicas of the smallest Sea Ray's--mostly deep v inboard outboards. I would say they're generic, lower quality, low price boats when new--generally speaking. That's why so many generic trim parts will fit them.
Galaxy boats had classic styling--good looking boats.

Re: Galaxy Boats???

Like all boats of that vintage, if the transom and floor are not rotted you should be in good shape. I was looking at the Galaxy boats back in 90 as well.
