I was just giving a Gale Buccaneer 5 hp motor. I was wondering where can I find a serial number or model number off of it. I was told it was a 5 hp motor. It does have the 5 on the side of the top engine cover. But that is all the guy know about it. I did put it in a barrel and the engine starts and runs good. I would like to get alittle more infor on the engine.
Thanks for the help

OR a plate on the side of the port side stern bracket, depending on model. Does your motor have a full FNR gear shift? Or a Neutral-only clutch? Or direct drive, no shift at all?

Then the number plate is riveted to the port stern bracket, right above where it sits on the transom. Has to be a 1955 thru 1959 if metal cowling, or 1960 thru 1963 if it has a fiberglass hood. 1963 was the last year of Gale production.

Probably should get a power head gasket and impeller, Have to pull the power head to unhook the shift rod before lower unit can be removed. I just did my 5 hp Sea king. Motor runs great always starts on first or second pull and runs real smooth.
