A friend gave me a little 3. HP Gamefisher for my Coleman baot. It starts up easily, but after it runs for a few minutes, it stops. If I wait a while it will start right up again on 1 pull.Only to die out again in 5 min. It is an air cooled engine. It has a coil and igniter system. Can anyone shed some light on what could be causing it to die out? Thank you all.
Rick broker@coastalnet.com

Thompson
Are all the cooling fins clean? Tank vent open? Try it without the gas cap on it or at least loose. but it sounds like it is getting hot.
Richard

the motor itself doesn't seem overly hot. I was wondering about the coil possibly cutting out when it gets hot, but i don't know how to test it.

Re: Game Fisher 3.0 HP

are you using the fuel tank on the motor or a remote tank? make sure the valve for the motors tank is open all the way if you are not using a remote tank

Re: Game Fisher 3.0 HP

I am using a 50 to 1 ratio of gas & oil.
One thing I noticed. I changed the plug and the motor seems to run a whole lot longer now. although it still cuts out, it will run maybe 15 minutes. I wonder if the plug isn't the correct heat type? any thoughts?

I always thought those air cooled motors ran a richer oil mix. I could be mistaken, though. As far as the plug, it should be a Champion RJ14YC. What do you have in it now?

Re: Game Fisher 3.0 HP

The motor had an Autolite plug in it when i got the motor. I took that plug to the auto parts store and they cross referenced it and gave me a Champion 841-1 plud (stinless steel)J8C.

I have since found that the plug part # is BMR6A. I have not been able to cross reference that # with anything yet. Where did you find the # for the motor?
Thanks

Fouled Plug. I don't know if the oil/gas ratio is correct. The guy who gave me the motor said thats what he used.
The motor seems to smoke enough when idling though.
the last post was suposed to say (stainles steel) plug

I got the plug # from my Champion catalog. Quite a large heat range difference between the J8C and the RJ14YC. The 14 is a hotter plug, and may reduce or eliminate the plug fouling you must be experiencing. Cheap enough to give it a shot!
