I have had a problem with the engine overheating so I checked the thermostat and it was fine. I figured the water pump needed changing so I dropped the four bolts out of the lower unit and it came out only maybe 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch. I have seen other posts that talk about taking the bolt out of the shifting rod but I can't see it. My questions are:
Is there anything I can do to get it out further to see the rod and screw?
Did I miss a step in taking the lower unit off?
