Hello, my boss game me a gamefisher 15hp that has not ran in 10 years. I had no spark so I bypassed the safety switch and cleaned the carb and finally got it started. It seems to run smooth but runs fast. When I tried to go to start option or slower it quickly dies. I cannot get it to idle. So I cleaned out the fuel filter(screen), carb(again), tried making slight adjustments here and there to no avail. The last time I ran it I tried backing off fast throttle and it died and I have no spark again. Uhhg. Please help. Thanks for your time.

There were a number of engines used in the Gamefisher line. Posting the model number will help.

A carburetor usually has a separate circuit for idle speed. This circuit keeps the engine running when the butterfly is closed. You may still have a clogged passageway in the idle circuit. I use a piece of copper telephone wire (with insulation stripped off) to clean clogged passageways. (Never use a steel wire on an aluminum carb body.) I ensure the passageway is clear by shooting carb cleaner into the passageway using the nozzle attachment and looking for the carb cleaner to bubble out at the other end of the passageway. Wear eye protection if you do this.
