Gamefisher 15HP questions

Im picking up a 1995 gamefisher. It "used" to be a 9.9 but was upgraded and now is a 15 HP. What should I replace before throwing into an all day event.

I was going to change the spark plugs. Also was curious if I should just go ahead and change the water pump. Plus I need a gas tank with hose, with the "quick disconnect" (not a standard hook up like my old evinrude.) Anyone have any tips or part numbers I might need for this engine before I go and get myself stranded?

Change the lower unit oil. Pull the spark plugs and clean them. Run it in a barrel and see how it runs and if its pumping water good. If the motor is running a little ruff yank the carb off and douche it with a can of carb cleaner. Inspect the impeller if you know how.
I wouldn't do anything else to it.
You can buy the fuel connector at Wal Mart for $5.00 (It's the same as Suzuki).
Why would that outboard leave you stranded? Small outboards are very reliable and seem to last forever.

You can still get parts through Mercury dealers , but , thier service folks may be less than "enthusiastic" when it comes to that little kicker .
Dealer $ervice folk$ tend to prefer larger , fre$hly out of warranty motor$ , for some rea$on .....

I'd be skeptical about the supposed "15HP conversion" , as it involves more parts than simply bolting on the carb for an actual 15HP model .

Otherwise , no reason that motor won't provide years of dependable service , assuming it is in good condition .

As stated before , change the LU lube , new impeller , and , a carb kit and rebuild could be in order .
Suzuki connector is the same , for the fuel line .

FYI , check the compression before you throw any money at it .
80 - 100+ PSI per cylinder , no more that 10% difference between adjacent cylinders .

If you are reading below 80 PSI , you have issues .
If the rings are sticking , they can be freed by a good decarb .
You could also have a worn out , or , damaged motor , especially if the compression is vastly different between adjacent cylinders .
This usually indicates a blown head gasket , warped head , or , more dire internal damage to the engine like broken rings or a hole in the piston .

I had one of these 15hp force model gamefisher's. That thing ran great! I got my parts from http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/us/. The parts are still available from there. Mine was a 1996 model but the same thing as yours. The only difference is the carb is different on the 15hp than it is on your 9.9. If yours was actually converted than the carb was changed all together as it is a completely different carb. Once again it was a great motor and easy to work on. I was verry happy with it and now wish that i had kept it, but i needed the money.
