I had a 7.5 Gamefisher (Sears) motor. Don't know how old the one you're looking at is, but this one was from the mid-70's. Air-cooled, it was noisy and low-powered. Similar boats with 5 hp engines would pass me by. If the one you're looking at is a similar vintage, I'd take a pass on it.

mine also had a white cover with green designs, but i think they had those for awhile, so i'm not sure if the one you're looking at is from the same era. it's been quite a while, but as i recall, it was hard to start and not particularly smooth running. it beat rowing, but just barely.

Learo,

we had a Teddy 7.5 hp. They are really not very good engines. I would avoid them unless someone is giving one away. We have fond memories now about how we survived the ordeals that the Teddy got us into, they are fun to talk about now, but not too much fun when it actually happened

Learo,

Unless you are a collector, I would pass. That engine has not been produced for a long time and parts are going to be scarce-at best.

It didn't have the best reputation when it was being produced.

I've got a 9.9hp Gamefisher, it runs pretty good, but it vibrates alot. The prop lobes are shaped like a leaf on a 3-leaf clover and it picks up the weeds like hell, it sucks for fishing, I don't know why they named it a game fisher.

Mine is also water cooled. Engine is made by Techumseh(I think that's how it is spelled), I think they should stick to small engines.

I would not recommend these engines at all. Over all they are poorly built. It's like they tried to make a boat motor out of a small engine.

believe the motor is either a Tecumseh or a Clinton, and it may be air cooled even if there is an impeller in the lower unit. The pump cools the exhaust housing. It could be a mid-'80s, based on your description. $275 is pretty high for that motor, and I wouldn't buy it unless you are a collector and you like to tinker.

Re: Gamefisher 7.5 Any info would be great

Thanks for all the input...Although I did not get any positive feedback, I really needed a kicker engine... it will only be used if my main engine fails. Which has left me stranded in the puget sound before. And I can not find anything nearly as cheap for 7.5 hourse. So I picked it up last night. I brought it home and put it in a garbage can on the stand to run it and it runs a bit rough at idle. IF you push the chocke all the way in it dies. IF you put it into gear and open the throttle and push the chocke in it really sounds good and hums. Any idea why it will not idle well with out the chock at least half way in. I think I should have listened to all of you guys...... I dont feel to good about this purchase any more. But for the price I could not let it go. Thanks Doug
