I am trying to change the water impeller. I have the 4 bolts out of the lower unit. It is worked loose by about 1/8" but it won't drop any further. Seems to be stuck. Is there something else holding this on before I break something loose.

rhart,

Don't force it. More than likely it's held in place by the shift rod.

I'm not familiar enough with that engine to take you much farther.

You might want to see where the exterior shift mechanism goes to. If you see a shaft coming out of the L/U, midsection, connected to the shifter, that's your disconnect point.

Thanks for your reply. After reading others info I decided that might not be the problem. Put bolts back in and resealed. But owners manuel say to replace impeller at leaast once a year. Still don't have any idea how to get to it. Would still like to find this out

No, I have not changed the thermostat. But I know where it is. Still don't know about changing the impeller. The only problem I am having right now is when I troll for about an hour and a half or more I keep fouling out the plugs. any suggestions?
