I just aquired a 1994 Gamefisher 9.9, model # 225.587991 and am in need of some info on this motor.<br /><br />This is the first motor I've owned in about 35 yers, so I'm almost starting all over again. Naturally, no manual came with the motor and Sears Parts website doesn't show any diagrams or give mych useful data.<br /><br />First, I've been told that this motor was made by Chrysler/Force. Is that true and, if so, what model Force is equivalent to the Gamefisher?<br /><br />Second, Where can I obtain a users manual and/or a service manual? I've looked online, but don't find anything within a reasonable price range.<br /><br />I assume that any good quality gear oil will be good for the lower end and that the fuel/oil mix is 50:1. Sound right?<br /><br />Any info will be appreiated very much.<br /><br />Thanks

Re: Gamefisher 9.9 info needed

Either the number is misprinted, or you misread it. Try typing in 225.581991 - I tried this, and WALA - It came up with a list of the diagrams and parts lists for your motor. This is in fact a Force motor, but I don't know the Force number for their equivalent. Also, you are right about the fuel mixture being 50:1. I use Mercury gear oil in my bottom end. One more thing...Sears sold most of these motors with a 9.25 pitch prop, which was too high for my inflatable. I have mounted a Michigan Wheel prop with a 6 inch pitch, but alas, I can't yet report on performance, as I've yet to try it out. I will let you know. Hope all of this helps a bit....ABBER....

Thanks for your response, Abber, but ... that number is correct. The ID plate is bright and shiny and looks like new (this thing "supposedly" only had about 5 hours running time since new and has been stored for over three years).<br /><br />On the sears parts site, that number returns "Craftsman 9.9 outboard", but the diagrams are incomplete (no part number listing - just the exploded diagram) and I find very few parts available there.<br /><br />Was it the Sears site you referred to where you found the (WALA!!!) parts listings & diagrams?<br /><br />I also appreciate your additional prop info ... good stuff to know.<br /><br />Maybe I'm even more dense than I think, but I'm still looking to cross this motor over to a Force model number to get parts and books.<br /><br />Anyway ... I do appreciate your time, effort and info, Abber.<br /><br />Thanks

By the way ...<br /><br />What spark plugs does this unit take and what should they be gapped at?

Re: Gamefisher 9.9 info needed

I jumped the gun on you there. I didn't even try the original number you listed, but that one works just fine, also. It will also say Craftsman for the brand, but this is the Force made unit. There are separate columns for selecting the diagram or parts list. I usually print out the diagram, and I can then refer to it as I look at the parts list. Also, it looks like you have a pitch of 8.25 on your prop, so disregard that as well. I am a bit of a novice myself, but I have this same motor (slightly different number, not sure exactly what year), but have done some of the legwork already. The place where I find the info is at http://WWW3.sears.com/ and I have ordered seals and a water pump kit from them. Anyway, sorry for any confusion I may have caused.....ABBER.....

Re: Gamefisher 9.9 info needed

Interesting ...<br /><br />When I go to that site it loads the diagram then gives me a message (file contains no data). This is both Firefox and IE-6 and both plain and java formats ... so, I can't see the associated part numbers.<br /><br />O.K. on the prop, plus, the guy I got this from just called to tell me has three extra "new" props for me, but doesn't know the sizes. Actually, I'm more interested in shear pins than props right now (I'm sure it uses them). <br /><br />I do appreciate the response, Abber ... thanks

I tried your model number, too, and couldn't get the diagrams. I could see the parts lists, however, and even put a few things in the cart to check availability. Some are available, some are not.<br /><br />Your shear pins, though, are available. $5.49 for a pack of three. Sears calls them propellor pins, and you can find them in the gearcase parts list.<br /><br />I don't know why the diagrams aren't coming up, but you can get parts, if you know their names.

The manual is listed as part number OB4120 for $17.99, and the prop pins are part number A324101. That Sears site does get flaky sometimes.

I just ordered the owners manual but who knows how long that'll take to get here. <br /><br />In the meantime, What plugs does the 9.9 like and what gap should they be set at?<br /><br />Thanks, Abber .. you've been of great help.

Pogo, the plugs in my 9.9 Gamefisher are Champs L87yc sorry I dont know the gap but most of my boats are a 30 gap. This may be the same website but I use www.sears.com/partsdirect or I call 1800 366 part. The motor is a little heavy and takes a good pull to start it but it is a great motor and flys on my Zodiac with 2 people and gear.Needs some help getting on plane but it is like getting shot out of a cannon once it does.Charlie

Re: Gamefisher 9.9 info needed

Thanks, Charlie ... I appreciate the info.<br /><br />The engine currently has ND plugs and, while it runs fine, I have little experience with ND and wanted the original (which you gave me) spec to start from.<br /><br />I finally (yesterday) got my hands on a service manual which lists the plug as an L82C. Several others have told me they use NGK BP6HS plugs, so I've gotten lots of help. What you gave me was what I wanted, however.<br /><br />Yes, the 9.9 is surprisingly gutsy. I use it mainly for fishing in the New River mouth and on the Intercoastal and it pushes my little 12 foot aluminum skiff along rather smartly with two people and all the gear. <br /><br />Hole shots don't matter much to me, but with a 150 pound fishing friend in the bow (along with battery, gas tank, cooler, anchor and "stuff" all forward of the beam), it comes up on plane pretty well. <br /><br />Thanks, again ...
