Have no clue as to where to start?

Dang, how many motors do you have given to you? LOL. That one looks like it's had a rough life. Check for spark first, not much use going any further if it doesn't have that. Got spark? Then it needs a good cleaning, carbs cleaned, (looks like it's got new fuel lines), change lower unit oil, new plugs. Then put in a barrel and see if it will run.

Look for a model number probably on the mounting bracket.
If it begins with 217 it is an Eska built motor.typical history is weak ignition.
As I understand it some ignition parts are now available through one of the ignition specialty houses.Someone should be along with that info.
If it begins with 225 it will be a Force. Somewhat better parts support though both companies a long since out of business.
Look for waking a sleeping outboard at the FAQs section.

Re: Gamefisher 9.9?

An aftermarket unit is now available for those ignition systems. CDI Electronics makes it.

It's over $200, though. You have to really think about whether you want to put that much into that outboard.

You'd be hard-pressed to get over $200 for a running one of those Eska-based 9.9s, so unless you're in love with it, part it out if it doesn't have spark on both cylinders.

Those things will break your heart.

Yea...we have spark.

Next the lower unit. Then the carb. Hope this old thing works!

Carb question?

Is there suppose to be a gasket around the float bowl lid?
