I am looking at a 1988 Gamefisher/force outboard. I have not been able to talk to the owner yet about the specific parts that were used, but he claims that it originally started out as a 7.5hp and was upgraded to a 15hp. Is this possible, are the engine pieces that closely related?

He has no clue. Don't buy it. Doubling the horsepower? Pure BS! All you'll be getting is a can of worms where you'll have no idea what parts are what.

What Willy said and add to that the Force built motors are orphans.Mercury anounced some time ago they were not producing new parts for Force. If you check Force parts here you'll see it is very limited compared to major brands.
There are more parts available here for 50 year old Evinrudes than 10 year old Force/Chrysler motors.

Wow! Thanks guys, I thought something smelled a little fishy.
It does say Gamefisher on the cover, but is it true that it was a Force built motor?

Being a 1988 model, I figured parts where still available for it. What I was having a hard time believing was that it was upgraded to a 15hp. It just seems that if it was that easy that everybody would be doing it.

I am learning the outboard world, and I sure appreciate your words of information and wisdom.

Re: Gamefisher/Force

It probably is made by Force. They made them for Sears even back in the late Chrysler days. Many common maintenance parts are still available, but major parts are being phased out and most already have been.

We get a lot of input here about such modifications. Some are accurate, most are mythical and/or way overstated. One of the biggest problems is that with such modifications, you end-up with a collection of parts that becomes very difficult to determine just what the heck to order when parts are needed. Mass confusion!

Re: Gamefisher/Force

If he had said 9.9 to 15, I would have said "maybe." The 9.9 and 15 used the same block with different bore and stroke, same mid leg, and same lower unit. But the 7.5 was a different block and lower unit. He is blowing smoke.
