Re: Gamefisher Impeller Replacement
Go to www3.sears.com, put your model number in and go to the diagrams. Choose the gearcase diagram, which shows the driveshaft.
It's a simple splined end that goes into a coupler on the engine. It's designed, like most outboards to slide in and out with the installation and removal of the gearcase.
In your case, it's stuck, probably because of rust, due to a previous owner not greasing the splines when re-inserting it.
Will it come out? Maybe. Flip the thing updside down, standing it on it's head, so to speak. Run some rust breaking fluid down the driveshaft so it will get to the splined area. If the driveshaft is vertical, it'll just run down the shaft to the area that needs it.
Now, wait. Let it sit overnight and try again. No luck? Do it again. Wiggle the shaft and lower unit in all directions as you pull.
No luck? Try securing the driveshaft in a way that doesn't damage it, and tap it with a soft-headed, but hard hammer. Make it ring. The vibrations may help.
Still no luck? Try to find an area on the shaft you can grab with a pair of vicegrips...an area that does not pass through a seal or anything. Cushion the jaws somehow to avoid damaging the shaft. Support the vicegrips on a piece of wood across the middle housing and try a little leverage.
All of this may well work, and may well be frustrating as the dickens until it does, but it usually will eventually get that shaft out.
Once you finally get it out, be sure to put some grease on the splines before reassembling.
