gamefisher jumping out of gear

My 7.5 gamefisher will not stay in gear if I put any kind of load on it. If I hold the 2-speed lever forward it will work. I read somewhere the clutch has some kind of spring mechanism. This is a 1980 Gamefisher 7.5

Yes there is a spring.It may be available, try certified parts corp.
As trouble prone as these motors seem to be I would be inclined to fix it so its in gear all the time.
