Hi i have a gamefisher 7.5 hp. it is from 1982. It overheats really quickly. this engine is air cooled so i cannot figure why it would overheat. I have the oil/gas ratio correct and the heat sink on the engine looks to be clear of obstruction. It always starts right up, but it then begins to overheat and from there it begins to lose power. what could cause an air cooled engine such as mine to overheat. any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Welcome to iboats. :)

I'm thinnking somebody forgot the oil once upon a time and some of the aluminum from the piston welded itself to the cylinder. As the motor runs and heats up, the piston starts to stick to it.

Is your model 585750? I had a 7.5 I think it was a 1982 model. It is air cooled, but does have a waterpump impeller for the exhaust. It could be restricted or the impeller is shot. It's not difficult to pop the head and inspect the bore, and pop the inspection plates off the sides and take a look at the piston also. New gaskets are inexpensive just make sure to use sealant. I'm also assuming it's a Tecumseh powerhead. Also are you positive it's overheating? I reckon if it's getting burning hot then yeah it is, but if not it could just be a fuel problem, I had plenty of that with mine.
