I have a 1977 gamefisher 7.5 hp and it will only run with the new fuel valve on it in the off position and when I turn it on while its running it dies and leaks gas out of the leg. I have another post under 1977 gamefisher wont start and leaks gas so if you look at that you can see all the stuff that lead me too this point. PLEASE HELP

Re: Gamefisher will not run with fuel valve open.

Seems like if the motor runs indefinately with the valve closed, the new valve isn't closing. If the motor runs briefly with it closed, then dies, it may be that the carb is flooding, with the overflow cruising into the engine's bottom end thru the reeds, then on out the exhaust ports to the leg. When you shut the fuel valve, there's gonna be a range of max to min fuel levels in the carb that are runnable. I still think the carb is not turning off fuel flow at the needle, but I'm useless as to what else to suggest, out side of shooting some pics of the needle, seat, and the float installed without the bowl, upside down.

The fuel valve is just a regulare plastic valve in the fuel line. when I run it it is deffinetly in the off position because it only runs for about a 45 seconds then dies. If I turn it on it shuts off and leaks fuel. I keep taking the carb off and setting the float to different heights and some seem to be a little better than others but it still shuts off. I'll try to post some pics later today but I cant guarantee any thing.

Mahty if you might remember we had a yahoo group member who's 15hp gamefishers carb was cracked??? and it leaked bad, Cracking like that is usally caused from over tightening the carbs flange against the carb gasket.
To tight an't right

I do indeed, but only after being reminded, Mr. C - Woodsailboat, you can use an 11/64" drill shank to set the gap between the float and the body, and when you have it set, hold the carb upside down, cover the fuel pump bladder with a finger, and blow into the fuel inlet fitting. If you hear air leakage, there's something rotting in Denmark, and the thang won't shut off fuel flow either. You should also thoroughly inspect the casting for possible cracks - they'll ruin your durned life. You should put that float in a cup of somethin it'll float in, and leave it for an hour to see if it sinks. Durned sinkin' floats'll ruin your life.

Re: Gamefisher will not run with fuel valve open.

The float has no leak, it has been set to the correct height, and the carb has been fully cleaned but it still leaks. I have completely run out of things to try so I think I'm just going to take it to a shop and let them look at it and if they cant do anything then I'll just hang it up as an ornamental piece. It will be a while before I get the time to take it so please if you have any more advice then let me know.

All I'd know to do from here is whip out the 4" magnifying glass, and start lookin' for cracks. The open end of the float to needle clip is pointed at the choke, huh?

Yes it is pointed at the choke. I have somewhat looked for cracks but there is deffinetly no cracks on the flange. Could there be some else where.

Yeah, you'd think that's where it'd crack if it was over torqued, but it can crack well behind the flange. I've searched my duff off trying to find the picture of the one Mr.Crabs mentioned, but I suck at searching, so screw it, but it seems to me that the crack was unexpectedly rearward of the flange, and went thru the body so the carb leaked internally.

Martin I checked and I don't think there ever was a picture of that carb body,

The float has no leak, it has been set to the correct height, and the carb has been fully cleaned but it still leaks.
Amazing isn't it?
I say something is cracked, not sure its the carb though...

And Cadet Larkin251 what is this time waster URL? it locked up my browser and I checked and its in every post you have made
