1979 228 mercruiser. Replace seal and gimble bearing. Reinstalled stern drive but will not go all the way in apx 1 inch. Is it possible gimble bearing is not all the way in. I can reach in and feel a gap between the new seal bout a little less than an inch. Is the bearing supposed to be flush with the seal
