My boat has what is called a Garboard Drain Plug. I have never seen one of these on past boats. The other 3 boats from my past all had a rubber snap handle type. What gives? Is this better or was it a fix of something gone bad. How tight do I put it in? I wouldn?t want it to come out while on the lake. Any help would be great?. Thanks:confused:

Just amounts to what you prefer!

Garboards have been around forever...and it is the plug of my choice. Mine is attached to the oil drain hose, and I use the removed plug to pull the hose out.

Snug...and then a little more...is what I do.

You could put yours in your toolbox...and get one of the rubber ones to fit the hole!

Happy boating!

It's a threaded plug. Snug it up. You don't need a two foot long breaker bar for this job. Be thankful. It is a lot more secure than a rubber plug.

My new boat has one of these.
As you, all the other boats we've had used rubber plugs.
I always carry a spare plug in my tool box and a 9/16 wrench to make sure it's snug.
