Garmin 160 Problem?

I have a Garmin 160 Fishfinder about 1 month old. It seems to work fine, but every day that I use it, it shuts off by itself. To get it to work again, I simply unplug the data cable in back and replug it and Presto. This however is getting to be a pain......Anyone know why this is happening? It is connected to a new deep-cycle battery to which my trolling motor is also connected. Two days ago my in-line 40A fuse was cooked for some unknown reason and I have been using this set-up three days per week for a month??? Any ideas?? Djohns19 gave me some tips on the fuse, but now I'm wondering if the Garmin comes into play here....Thanks, Wally

Re: Garmin 160 Problem?

I believe that you may have a crossover on the fuseable link. The Garman will go off by itself if it gets a load beyond the amps that it draws. You may want to try placing two fuses inline, not just one. Even fuses can over load a unit like that if the fuse you are using is slightly more then what the unit can handle. Also, do not run the unit stright off the battery. Try to use a fuse block.

Thom

By the by, you sure do have lots of time to fish.
