just looking at either the garmin or the eagle and they are the same price but which one would be a better buy. Dont fish extreamly deep water so power might not be an issue. Thanks!

Re: Garmin 240 or Eagle 480 ???

Hey bud. I personally own the Garmin 240. I like it, but was considering the Eagle 480 as well as a few Lowrance models. The depthfinder is built well and has super reliability. It has a simple but effective menu system. I have operated the Eagle 320 using the downloadable "simulator" and I find my depthfinder to be a bit simpler.

The eagle has twice the resolution, but I find the resolution of mine to be plenty to get the job done well. Mine is the "blue" version, which can go down to 1500feet. Well, that's drilling for oil down here in south Louisiana! LOL :D

I personally think you'll be happy with both. I can't give you a comparison, but I can tell you that I love the compact size and simple menu system of my Garmin 240.

The transducer does make a quiet clicking sound, but I believe both would do that.
