I thought it would be easy to install my new GPS. Last week I removed my old Garmin 215 along with it's bracket and antennas. I left only the power plug behind. I thought it would be a simple thing to attach the new pig tail. I snipped off the old plug, stripped the red and black wires and connected them to the red and black wires on my new Garmin 172c. Nothing. The 215 was working fine. The 172c worked fine on a battery at home, so what gives? The only thing I can think of is the red line would now have two in-line fuses, but I don't see how that should matter. I would just remove the old cord and replace it but the panel is located under the helm where I can't reach it. Am I going to have to train my 12 year old daughter and send her in?

Do you have 12VDC at the supply pin of your new plug/connector?

Does the key have to be in the 'on' position?

Are both fuses still good?

If the fuses are good and you have power, then look for a good ground.
