Hello Everyone,

I have a GPSMAP 431. It has a simulation mode in which to learn the units functions. I would love to spend several hours doing this. The manual suggests that you can take the unit inside and run the simulation mode but as far as I can tell, Garmin doesn't give you a way to accomplish this (i.e. batteries, external power supply or adapter). Am i crazy or did Garmin just have a bad day while writing this manual LOL?

Thanks,
Paul Bolden

Its for use if the boat is inside a building for storage, but you can buy an appropiate 12vdc power supply and hook it up to that. We use Stinger power supplies, i would think there are cheaper out there. Not sure if the price would be worth it, but sure would help learning the equipment instead of on the fly.

Thanks CaravelleMike. I guess it's all in how you read the words...you're right, sure inside storage is what they meant. I was thinking inside the house on the sofa with a beer LOL...GEEZ!

I'm going to buy an additional power/data cable, attach an accessory plug and plug it into a 12v battery pack using this hot and ground wire.

Does anyone see any problems with this hookup?

Thanks,
Paul Bolden

I did the same thing. Wired a 12V adapter off an old answering machine to it. Just plug it in. Beat mess'in around a battery pack.;)
