Anybody here use a portable gas caddy for re-filling their boat?

We do a lot of boating on a smaller private lake that doesn't have gas on the water so I'm very interested in buying one. Pulling the boat out of the water to refill or using multiple 5 gallon containers is a pain.

I have been looking at the following two products:

http://www.overtons.com/modperl/pro...n_DuraMax_Flo_N_Go&str=gas+caddy&merchID=4005

http://www.overtons.com/modperl/pro...n_Tempo_Gas_Walker&str=gas+caddy&merchID=4005

I like the price of the DuraMax a lot better but I have read a lot of mixed reviews on it. And it by the pictures it does look a bit cheap.

The Gas Walker looks well designed but its pricey.

Anybody have any first hand experience with either product or another gas caddy?

Re: Gas Caddies

I have the 14 gal caddy, which I use for premix for my 16' speedboat. It keeps the mixture fresh.
Here in NJ, we are required to remove them from the car for filling. That means you need to lift it into the car, when full, and out of the car when you get to the lake. That can be done with 14 Gal, but would be difficult with more weight.

What size boat are you plkanning on gassing? Any more than an 18'footer will be hard pressed to be filled by the gas caddy.

For my 21 footer, I use 4 Jerry cans. This gives me 24 gal, which is much more like what I need for it.

I don't think they're worth the $200 since you have to lift them in and out of the vehicle, get them into some kind of cart or hand truck to roll decently, and return. I use 4 jerry cans and a yard cart, much easier I think.

Home, I agree with you. The one I have was a birthday present. It was the best present I have received in 10 years, LOL. I never would have bought one.....

I have a 20' VIP with a 5.0. It holds about 31 gallons.

What kind of jerry cans you guys using? I just did a quick search and some of the metal ones are running around $50. That is pretty expensive as well if you have several.
