Whos got the hot tip on where i can get replacement parts for my fuel cans...it is the old style steel can, the gauge and fuel pickup is fastened in place with 6 screws and the flange kinda tapers towards the front...i would say there the 70's and 80's cans...Thanks!

Re: gas can repair parts

I have done some research from links here on iboats, but still didn't find the correct parts...these tanks have to be the most popular style so i can't believe how hard it is to find replacement parts...

Yeah; I hear ya...they are un-available in most all places that I've looked and asked.

Then; I posted a question on the Old-Merc forum and a gentleman named Jason who goes by the handle "popdude" over there contacted me and offered the parts for a very reasonable price. I never got around ordering them from him because I got another tank.

Where on earth he gets them from; who knows. He had complete rebuild kits for my Merc tank.

Go to this link and read the post from popdude....you can contact him there. I don't know if he's a member here a i-boats.

Yeah; most folks go with the newer plastic tanks and call it a day I suppose.

It's the vintage collector guys that are interested in the original tanks; to everyone else a tank is a tank.

The link I gave you is May 2010; not that old. I'd concentrate on the "old-outboard" type of sites if that one doesn't pan out. The collector guys have different needs and wants.

All I really wanted was a gas can that didn't leak.

Re: gas can repair parts

I went back and looked at the Link SeaKaye...i was looking at the Members join date, it is an up-to-date Link...The more i think about it, i believe im approaching this wrong...what i really need to do is disassemble one of my tanks and see how it is built...One of my biggest concerns is that the gaskets are deteriated...plus i need to inspect that pickup tube...i disassembled one of my tanks just to check the screen on the pickup, but there was no screen filter...and now im wondering how strong the walls of the pickup tubes are...if they are deteriating they may be collapsing...My whole question started because i noticed that everytime i switch to this one particular tank my motor seems to stumble...just have a funny feeling about this one tank...
