Gas Cap venting?

Hello all, I have been working on my boat getting it ready for the fishing season. I tapped into my main gas line to run my kicker off it instead of having a portable tank on board. I tried to start my kicker after the switch and could not get the primer bulb to fill to get gas to the motor. changed the bulb and still had same problem.

I unscrewed my gas cap and pumped the primer bulb and it immediatly filled up. Is this a sign that my cap is not venting correctly and need replaced? Thanks for the hlep. john

Maybe if you posted a pic of where you tied into the line. Did you use a y valve(diverter)? Does your main engine start with the cap still on now that you've cut into the line?

If you merely put a T in the line, it is possible that one motor is sucking air through the other motor's carburetor instead of lifting gas from the tank.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I cut into the line between the tank and the bulb of the main motor. After I tied into the line, I ran my main motor and it runs perfectly. After I shut the motor down, I transferred the water muffs to my small kicker motor and went to start it and the bulb would not fill. I unscrewed the gas cap and pumped the bulb and it filled with gas almost immediatly. John
