i have a 1964 mercury, 2 cylinder. i was redoing the hoses and checking the carb, and after starting it with just some gas in the carb "cup" you might call it, my engined burned it up in 3 seconds. when i first go this thing, i idled it in a barel for about 15 minutes total and it burnded nearly a half gallon of gas. is this normal?!?!

Re: gas consumption

Sounds sorta thirsty to me MercMan.....hopefully you fixed whatever leak there has been when you re-did those hoses and worked over the carb. I'm sure you've looked for gas dripping; eh? You can also see the excess fuel on the surface of the water when you get it on the boat...

If you haven't already...do a carb kit...and pay attention to the needle and seat...and the float.

Thanks for reading, Chuck
