Gas gauge screw torque?

I realize this isn't exactly a Mercruiser Engine or Stern Drive question, but I had to remove the screws that hold the gas gauge (fuel sending unit is it called maybe?) from the top of the gas tank under the floor to siphon out the 15 year old gas tonight. Does anyone have a guess as to the torque value for those five small 5/16" head screws?

I'm known to overtighten and strip/snap bolts ALL THE TIME so normally I wouldn't worry about torquing such small screws, but it seems I only have one internal/natural torque spec, and that always gets me in trouble!

Thank you guys.

I watch the cork gasket under the plate. Cross tightening sequence and when you see the cork start to expand out beyond the diameter of the plate, stop. Run it awhile and check back for any leaking. If so, just snug it up a little till it quits. If you put too much pressure on the plate the cork will break. If you have the paper gasket then when it feels snug with a Phillips head screw driver and again, check later and snug till it quits if leaking...just a little at a time.
