i got a 1976 glastron boat that i'm redoing from the ground up. i had to put in a new gas float unit in the tank. in this boat my common ground is on the back of the fuel gauge on the dash. it also has 3 other post on the back of fuel gauge to to supply elec. to other funtions of the boat. the problem is the fuel gauge is reading backwards. i can move the float up to where it should be reading full and it reads empty. move it to empty reads full. any suggestions guys would be apreciate. thanks

Is the fuel gauge sender grounded as well? It needs to be connected the the common boat ground.

Re: gas guage problem

You probably have a gauge that is set up to read resistances from 10-180 ohms (VDO or european) or a 0-90 ohms (AC) from E-F and a sender that puts out 240-33 ohms (American), or vica versa.

To verify this, disconnect your sender from the gauge and turn on the ignition. If the pointer goes beyond F the gauge is set up for a sender other than 240-33. If it goes below E you have a 240-33 ohm gauge and you just have to get a new sender for the gauge.
