I have a 140 charger that uses too much fuel. It runs great and does good pulling skiers, but I go through fuel like crazy. If gas was not so high I wouldn't care. Do you guys have any ideas on how to get it to use less.
I just got back from the river. I put 5 gallon in one tank and six in the other. I went up the river on the 5 gallon tank almost wide open. I made about 16 miles before I had to switch tanks. I used the six gallon on the way back staying off the throttle a bit and it still used about 5 gallons. So I figured about 3 miles a gallon. It just seems that it sucks it. Maybe I'm wrong. By the way my speed is in the 50's wide open.
6hp evinrude will go 30 miles WOT on a 4gallons pushing a 20 foot sailboat named "FENDER BENDER 2" my Yamaha fx140 uses all 20 gallonsof fuel in 1 hour 30 minutes at WOT (58 miles an hour this is full throttle I can get to 58 at 6/8 throtle but the egine comp wont let you go faster
First of all boats with large motors use a lot of fuel...I get 2mpg in an 17'aluminum boat with a 120 ob jet...you get better than that. Secondly if you run full throttle that 140 will eat gas...if you have a planing hull get it on plane quickly than back off till it stays on plane easily for cruising. Sounds like your mileage is in the ballpark...just a Thought
