I had gas in the crankcase of my 87 3.0 litre merc so I replaced the fuel pump as diagnosed. I was still experiencing flooding so I've just rebuilt the carb. I noticed BEFORE I cranked it for the first time , gas in the crankcase again. The compression in the cylinders was between 130 and 150. Could that allow gas to get into the crank the pistons? How else could it be getting in? I also had a valve job done .

Re: gas in crankcase

A stuck carb float will leak gas into the motor, but usually it leaks out the carb bowl letting you know.
