1989 5.0 chevy motor. Gas in Oil. I started a thread awhile ago and was told to drain oil and refill then run the motor. I have since read a thread that states unhook coil and crank motor for 30 seconds 3-4 times. I am in the process of replacing carburator and fuel pump which should be completed tonight. My question is since I have a mechanical fuel pump and I unhook the coil, won't I still be pumping fuel into the carb even if the coil is unhooked?

If the carb is messing up.Then YES it will pump it full again. The only way to stop the fuel is unhook the fuel line at the carb and run it into a jug. Have a fire extinguisher or two at ready.Jerry

What do you know. I replaced the fuel pump and the boat fired right up. Checked the oil for gas smell again. The smell is gone. I will problably recheck the oil after a few hard runs but for know I will use it as is.
