soooooo... i have been working on an 8' pram and had the inside sanded to bare wood and fiberglass seams. i was seeing what i was going to do with the motor while i was using the rudder while sailing. i left the motor on the back of the boat over night and in the morning i saw a big patch on the bottom of the boat and found out that it was gas that dripped out of the motor because the gas was turned on and it came out of the carb.

so now that it has been sitting for about three days with a fan in front of it it has only dried a little bit. the boat is made of 3/8 cedar plywood and i was wondering if there was a faster way to get the gas out?

Thanks, Blake

Re: gas in plywood.

Yep. Putting a pile of drying powder (baby powder, talcum, etc...) will suck fuel right out of the wood. I use that method on my R/C airplanes all the time when I get nitro fuel in the balsa wood, which happens all the time.

I'm actually kinda surprised the gas didn't evaporate. Are you sure that the residue you are seeing isn't actually the oil that was in the gas? If so, the baby powder will dry that up too. Just dump a pile of powder onto the wet spot. Vacuum the powder up every day or two...and add another pile of powder. Repeat uptil dry. Should only take one or two rounds of powder...maybe three if it's really saturated.
