Gas leak at sending unit

Today on the water my engine just shut down and would not run wot. I checked the primer bulb and it was flat. After I got home I found that the sending unit was leaking gas and when I tried to tighten the screws I found that three were stripped. I went and got some larger screws (5/16) and the heads on them were to big to tighten down around the base of the sending unit.
Has anyone had to troubleshoot this problem before? How did you fix this?
I'm thinking about pumping all gas out of the tank and filling the screw holes up with marine tex. Then I will re-tap with the correct size screws and a new gaskit. Any thoughts or comments are much welcome.

The fuel leak did not cause the engine issue. when the primer bulb is sucked flat that indicates there is a restriction between the bulb and the bottom of the pickup in the tank, or that the vent on the tank was not open.

Rotate the sender to clean metal and drill new holes. You can fill the old ones, but the gasket will, also ...

Thanks Guy's- Silvertip, the bulb was not flat, but it would not pump up firm. I also did not tell earlier in my post that we also ran out of gas. I think that a lot of it leaked out in my driveway when I had the boat tilted up high for the recent thunderstorms.
I will probaly turn the sender 1/4 inch and re-tap.
