I have a 1984 evinrude 115 hp outboard, it`s leaking gas from the carburator cover on the bottom. it only leaks when i put the motor up. I put a new gasket on it and it still leaks exactly the same amount and the same place. There is a gas return on the bottom right and it is not clogged up. thanks.

Re: gas leak

If you tilt the engine immediately after running you may get a small amount of fuel running back from the engine through the drain. If the fuel continues to run, the carburetor float valves are not closing properly and would need to be rebuilt.

Tilting the engine lifts the floats even higher than in the running position, so normally that in itself would not cause the fuel to run out.

Thanks, Good Info. It Is Only A Small Amount. I Took The Cover Off And Saw A Small Amount Come Out Of The Carburators And The Return. My Problem Is, It Is Leaking Out Of The Cover Even After I Put A New Gasket On. What Can I Do To Stop It From Coming Through The Cover. Thanks

I would be more concerned with stopping it coming from where it is coming from rather than getting through the cover. It's a little like closing the stable door after the horse has gone !!!!

As Ezeke Has Said, That This Is Normal. How Do I Stop It From Coming Out Of The Cover. I Put A New Gasket On It And It Still Leaks A Few Drops That Go Through The Gasket. I Don`t Want A Fire. I Want To Keep The Gas Inside The Cover So It Can Run Down The Return. Any Suggestions? Thanks

I would not tilt the motor immediately after running to start with, then if you still get some running through it is a different issue as said previously.
