Gas line connection issues

I have a 1988 Mariner 15m.
I have problems every year connecting the fuel line to the motor. It just doesn't get a tight fit. When I pump the bubble, fuel shoots out from where the connection is. Plus the motor will konk out if I don't continuesly pump the bubble.
When I do get a good fit I try not to touch the fuel line and it works great.
I've tried different sizes of connector and none fit perfect.
Thanks for your help.

Look at the "O" ring and see if there is a tear or rough spot. Maybe put a little vaseoline jelly on them as that will make the swell up a little. The reason your motor dies is that it is sucking air.

Is this the original connector that came with the motor?
Although they look very similar, the older Mariner, Mercury, and Evinrude fittings were slightly different in dimensions. And the fitting that connects to the tank, was different than the fitting that connects to the motor.

It should snap on securely. You have a fire in your boat right now, just waiting to be ignited.

That plastic fitting could also be worn out. Replace it. Your local Merc dealers have them for about 8 bucks.
