I have an old Clinton outboard sold as Montgomery Ward, 7.5 HP, air cooled. I lost the information I got here last fall so will have to trouble you again. Whats the proper mix?
Thanks!

42:1 or 50:1 on my sources. Use API TC (weed wacker / chainsaw) two cycle oil rather than TC-W3 (outboard) type oil.
If you want to find your old posts, just click on "My Profile", then "View My Recent Posts".

Don't know how old it is but we used to have one; green as I recall; no reverse just turn the engine around. Fuel tank on top of the engine.

Ours was '60's vintage and used a 25:1 fuel oil mix. But oil has come a long way since then and I probably wouldn't have a problem with the current rated TCW-3.

There is some discussion as to the difference in the makeup of weed whacker/chain saw oil and outboard oil. Not an oil expert just passing along info. These guys run up and down in rpms and run relatively cool, even though they are air cooled.

Outboards usually run WOT for extended periods. This is supposed to require a different set of additives.

I have no idea. Just passing on info. Personally, I'd go with the TCW-3 at 50:1.

Mark

24 to 1 is the mix,the new oil burns so clean it wont foul at the correct ratio

I agree!!!!!!!!! Better safe than sorry. No way would I run an older engine on less than 24:1 even with the new better oils. I am working on a 46' Champion now with roller bearings on the rod ends and bronze sleve bushings top and bottom. This one calls for 3/4 pint for each gallon which is probably a little rich for todays oils.
